Description

1. Product Overview

Full Part Number: IS200EPSMG1AECApplicable System: GE Speedtronic Mark VI / Mark VIe Turbine Control System and EX2100 generator excitation control platform, originally manufactured in the USA, an EOL discontinued core spare part for excitation cabinet power supply.Definition: EPSM stands for Exciter Power Supply Module. Installed into the EPBP backplane slot, it serves as the central multi-channel regulated power hub of the EX2100 excitation cabinet. It receives 125VDC input from the upstream EPDM distribution board, adopts a two-stage isolated switching power supply topology to generate all required logic power, relay power and isolated contact wetting power for the entire excitation control system. It supplies power to M1/M2/C main controllers, EGPA pulse amplifier boards, ECTB/EXTB terminal boards, crowbar de-excitation loops and EDEX/EDCF modules, which is the fundamental power source for excitation voltage regulation, grid synchronization and fault protection of generator units. It is widely applied in spare part replacement, power circuit troubleshooting and cabinet expansion maintenance of thermal power turbine excitation systems.

2. Hardware Structure & Functional Units

2.1 Two-Stage Isolated Buck-Inverter Power Conversion Unit

The first stage is a Buck converter stepping 125VDC down to a 50VDC intermediate bus; the second stage uses a push-pull inverter with an isolation transformer to produce precise multi-channel regulated outputs, limiting output voltage fluctuation within ±0.1V. Input side is equipped with slow-blow fuse and TVS surge suppression to resist overvoltage, reverse connection and electrostatic impact. Single-channel short circuit only blows the branch fuse without causing full-module power failure.

2.2 Multi-Channel Isolated Regulated Distribution Unit

Five mutually isolated power branches with independent current limiting and fuse protection:+5VDC for CPU and digital logic circuits;±15VDC for analog signal conditioning and sampling circuits;Dual redundant +24VDC for de-excitation thyristors and interlock relays;Isolated 70VDC dedicated for terminal board contact wetting to eliminate poor contact caused by oxidation of dry contact signals.

2.3 Front Panel LED Diagnostic Indication Unit

7 independent LEDs indicate the status of +5V, +15V, -15V, two +24V channels, 70V isolated power and general fault latch respectively. Operators can judge faulty power channels directly from outside the cabinet without upper computer software to accelerate on-site troubleshooting.

2.4 EPBP Backplane Bus Communication & Diagnosis Unit

Gold-plated rear connector plugs into the EPBP rack backplane for 125VDC power intake and power distribution. It uploads real-time voltage data and fault records to the main controller via the backplane bus for remote HMI monitoring and fault traceability. Thickened gold plating ensures stable contact under long-term vibration and dust exposure.

2.5 EMI Shielding & Industrial Reinforcement Unit

Integrated metal shielding shell and full conformal anti-moisture & anti-corrosion PCB coating comply with IEC 61000-4 EMC standards to suppress high-frequency harmonic interference from SCR rectifiers in excitation cabinets and prevent power ripple from contaminating analog sampling channels.

2.6 Hardware Overvoltage/Undervoltage/Overcurrent Protection Unit

Closed-loop monitoring circuits for each output channel latch the corresponding channel and trigger fault indication once overvoltage, undervoltage or overload occurs. Fault status can only be cleared by power cycle to avoid missing hidden faults caused by transient interference.

4. Product Advantages

  1. Two-stage isolated power architecture drastically improves power supply stability and eliminates generator reactive power fluctuation caused by power ripple.
  2. Complete isolation between input and outputs as well as among individual branches eliminates ground loop interference and prevents high-voltage reverse damage to downstream control boards.
  3. Visual channel-by-channel LED indicators realize rapid fault location and reduce unit downtime during maintenance.
  4. Standardized slot-based plug-and-play replacement requires no cabinet rewiring or program modification for on-site maintenance.
  5. Five-layer protection mechanism (input fuse, surge suppression, current limiting, short-circuit latch, over/undervoltage lockout) forms multi-level safety protection for the entire excitation power system.
  6. Fanless mechanical-free design with conformal coating and shielding enables 24/7 long-term operation matching the overhaul cycle of power generation units with zero routine maintenance.

5. Application Scenarios
