Description

1. Overview

The Prosoft MVI56-LTQ is a dedicated Limitorque valve actuator master communication module developed for Rockwell Allen‑Bradley ControlLogix platforms. It serves as a professional gateway for intelligent management of electric valve groups in thermal power, water treatment, petrochemical and oil-gas industries. Installed directly in the ControlLogix rack, it realizes bus communication docking between PLC systems and full-series Limitorque electric valve actuators, completing remote valve control, status acquisition, fault diagnosis and parameter reading/writing. It effectively solves the disadvantages of traditional hard-wiring modes such as complicated construction, serious signal interference and limited expansion capacity.

The module natively adapts to the dedicated Limitorque valve communication protocol and supports centralized management of up to 150 field valve devices with a single module. Equipped with a 1500-word high-capacity register mapping area, it enables high-speed asynchronous data interaction between valve status data and ControlLogix controllers. Fully compatible with RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 configuration software, it supports rack hot-swap, online configuration and bus self-diagnosis. With industrial wide-temperature and anti-interference design, it is widely used in renovation and new projects of automatic control for process valve groups.

2. Technical Features

2.1 Dedicated Protocol Adaptation for Limitorque Valves

Custom-developed for Limitorque electric valve actuator communication, the module natively supports the dedicated Limitorque bus protocol without additional protocol conversion gateways. It accurately parses core data such as valve operation commands, position feedback, fault codes, limit status and motor working conditions, and precisely issues control commands including valve opening, closing, stopping and resetting. It features excellent compatibility and matching performance with mainstream Limitorque valve equipment.

2.2 High-Capacity Centralized Equipment Management

A single module supports centralized networking management of up to 150 Limitorque valve actuators, with an independent 1500-word register mapping space for batch data collection and command issuance. Adopting an asynchronous data transmission mechanism, PLC logic operation and field bus communication are independent without mutual interference, avoiding data congestion, command delay and status jitter caused by multi-device concurrent communication, and improving the real-time performance and stability of large-scale valve group control systems.

2.3 Native ControlLogix Platform Compatibility

Fully compatible with full-series AB ControlLogix racks and processors, adapting to RSLogix 5000 V2.51 and above and Studio 5000 software. It requires no customized drivers and supports rapid configuration by importing standard configuration files. The standardized data mapping structure simplifies ladder logic programming, greatly shortening project debugging cycles and adapting to renovation and new construction scenarios of new and legacy ControlLogix systems.

2.4 Full-Dimensional Bus Self-Diagnosis & Fault Location

It supports power-on self-test, bus link monitoring, single-valve communication fault diagnosis, data transceiving abnormality detection and hardware fault alarm. It accurately locates bus disconnection, single device offline, communication timeout, protocol abnormality and equipment failure, and uploads fault codes and device status to PLC and upper monitoring systems in real time. Independent single-point fault isolation prevents individual device failures from affecting overall valve group communication.

2.5 Hot-Swap Maintenance for Non-Stop Operation

It supports live hot-swap in ControlLogix racks. In redundant architectures, module maintenance, replacement and expansion can be completed without system shutdown. All bus communication parameters, device addresses, polling cycles and control permissions can be modified online and take effect in real time without system restart, adapting to 7×24-hour continuous industrial production and reducing maintenance downtime costs.

2.6 Industrial-Grade Design for Harsh Working Conditions

Adopting industrial-grade components and standardized rack structure, it passes multiple industrial EMC certifications with excellent ESD protection, surge suppression and harmonic interference resistance. It effectively adapts to complex field conditions such as power cable interference, frequency converter radiation, mechanical vibration and temperature/humidity fluctuation. The wide-temperature design supports long-term uninterrupted stable operation in harsh industrial environments.

2.7 Cost-Effective Replacement for Traditional Hard-Wiring

The serial bus networking mode replaces traditional single-valve hard-wiring, greatly reducing field cable laying volume, construction costs and bridge load, and saving auxiliary materials such as terminals and isolators. It realizes refined digital management of valves with traceable operation records, fault logs and operating parameters, supporting intelligent and digital upgrading of factory valve equipment.

4. Operating Principle

After being inserted into the ControlLogix rack and powered on, the Prosoft MVI56-LTQ completes hardware initialization, backplane bus handshake, protocol loading and self-test, and enters the Limitorque valve master communication mode after verification. As the core communication transfer unit between PLC and field valve actuators, it establishes polling communication links with all on-site Limitorque electric valves through a dedicated bus. It periodically collects key data including valve switch status, position feedback, limit signals, motor operating current and fault codes, verifies and sorts the data, maps it to internal module registers, and synchronously uploads it to the ControlLogix controller and upper monitoring system to realize real-time visual monitoring of valve status.

Meanwhile, the module receives control commands such as valve opening, closing, emergency stop and fault reset issued by the PLC, verifies and encapsulates the commands through dedicated protocols, and issues them to corresponding valve actuators to drive on-site valve group actions accurately. Adopting an asynchronous transmission architecture, PLC logic operation and field bus communication are independent, effectively avoiding system stuttering and command delay caused by large-volume data interaction. During operation, it continuously monitors bus link quality and single-device communication status. Once communication timeout, device offline or bus abnormality is detected, it isolates faulty nodes and uploads alarms immediately to ensure stable operation of remaining valve groups.

The module supports online modification of polling cycles, device addresses and communication permissions, adapting to valve group networking requirements of different scales and realizing centralized intensive digital intelligent management of factory electric valve groups.
