IV. Working Principle
The ABB REL670 V2.2 line distance protection device operates based on impedance ranging principle + intelligent electrical quantity judgment logic. It collects real-time three-phase voltage and current analog quantities of lines, calculates real-time line impedance, and judges fault intervals by comparing with preset setting thresholds to realize accurate protection tripping and condition monitoring. The overall workflow includes five core links: signal acquisition, data operation, fault judgment, logic output and data storage.
The high-precision AD sampling unit synchronously collects PT/CT secondary three-phase voltage and current signals, which are isolated, filtered and shaped before transmission to the core processor. The processor calculates core electrical parameters such as line impedance, reactance, resistance, power and phase in real time, and accurately judges fault location, type and severity by comparing with 4-stage distance protection zoning thresholds.
Meanwhile, the device adopts multi-verification through backup protection logic, voltage/frequency monitoring logic and network time synchronization logic to eliminate misjudgment and omission. When internal faults are confirmed, it outputs tripping relay signals in milliseconds to open the circuit breaker and isolate faulty lines; if main protection refuses to operate, backup protection delayed tripping is automatically activated for dual protection. The device synchronously records waveform and event data, uploads to the background via IEC61850 protocol, and forms a full closed-loop of fault early warning, rapid protection, data traceability and remote management.
