Description

ABB ZM-32-PKZ2+HI11S-PKZ2

ZM‑32‑PKZ2 is a 32A thermal-magnetic trip module for PKZ2 series motor protection circuit breakers; HI11S‑PKZ2 is the matching auxiliary contact module with one normally open and one normally closed contact. The combined assembly provides overload, short-circuit and phase-loss protection as well as status signal output for three-phase motors, widely applied in motor feeder circuits of control cabinets and MCC systems.

I. ZM‑32‑PKZ2 (Thermal-Magnetic Trip Module)

1. Basic Information

Model: ZM‑32‑PKZ2
Brand: ABB (formerly Moeller)
Compatible base unit: PKZ2 series motor protection circuit breakers (e.g. PKZ2‑32)
Rated current range: 24~32A (adjustable via front dial)
Protection functions: Thermal overload protection + magnetic short-circuit protection + sensitive phase-failure protection
Mounting: Tool-free snap-on installation onto PKZ2 base frame
Weight: Approx. 200g

2. Technical Specifications

Overload protection (thermal trip): Bimetallic element, Class 10 inverse time characteristic; adjustable setting Ir = 24~32A
Short-circuit protection (magnetic trip): Electromagnetic instantaneous trip; pickup range: 8.5~14×Ir (approx. 275~425A)
Phase-loss protection: Three-phase sensitive design for accelerated tripping upon single-phase loss
Rated insulation voltage Ui: 690V AC
Rated impulse withstand voltage Uimp: 6000V
Short-circuit breaking capacity: 42kA @600V AC; 65kA @480V AC
Operating temperature: -20℃~+60℃
Protection class: IP20 (indoor cabinet mounting)

3. Structure & Operating Principle

Modular independent trip unit consisting of thermal elements, magnetic trip coil, mechanical latch and trip indication window.
  • Overload condition: Current exceeds Ir → bimetallic strip deforms thermally → breaker trips
  • Short-circuit / locked rotor condition: Heavy fault current energizes magnetic coil → instantaneous latch release & tripping (millisecond level)
  • Phase loss condition: Unbalanced three-phase current creates uneven temperature across thermal elements → accelerated trip action
Front-mounted trip indicator window enables direct visual fault identification.

II. HI11S‑PKZ2 (Auxiliary Contact Module)

1. Basic Information

Model: HI11S‑PKZ2
Configuration: 1NO + 1NC auxiliary contacts (1 normally open + 1 normally closed)
Compatibility: PKZ2 base breaker + ZM trip block
Application: Equipment status indication, fault alarming, interlock control and PLC signal feedback
Mounting: Tool-free snap-fit installation on the right side of ZM trip module

2. Contact Ratings

Contact arrangement: 1NO + 1NC
Rated operational current (AC‑15): 3A @230V; 1A @400V
Mechanical endurance: ≥100,000 operating cycles
Electrical endurance: ≥10,000 operating cycles under rated load
Protection rating: IP20

III. Overall Features of Combination Set

  • Three-in-one protection plus signal output: Overload/short-circuit/phase-loss protection together with 1NO/1NC status feedback
  • High breaking capacity: Up to 65kA at 480V, eliminating requirement for upstream backup fuses
  • Convenient field maintenance: Pluggable modular design for direct replacement without disconnecting main power circuit
  • Wide current coverage: 24~32A rating matches 11~15kW three-phase motors at 400V system
  • Robust industrial construction: Vibration-resistant, wide-temperature tolerant and high-insulation design for pumps, fans and conveyors

IV. Typical Applications

  • Standalone protection & control for 11~15kW /400V three-phase asynchronous motors
  • Motor feeder circuits inside control cabinets and MCC panels
  • Drop-in replacement for conventional “circuit breaker + thermal overload relay” assemblies for simplified layout
  • Sites requiring remote alarm, interlock logic and PLC digital feedback

V. Selection & Installation Guidelines

  • Must be assembled with PKZ2‑32 base breaker; cannot work independently
  • Current setting: Dial set to 1.0~1.15 × motor rated current
  • Mounting sequence: Install ZM‑32‑PKZ2 first, then snap HI11S‑PKZ2 into position until audible locking click is heard
  • Main circuit wiring: AWG14~AWG6 copper conductors, tightening torque:1.8N·m; only 75℃ rated copper cable permitted
  • Auxiliary wiring: NO/NC terminals connect to indicator lamps, buzzers or PLC digital input modules
