Description
ABB NDCU-12C
The ABB NDCU-12C is a dedicated network control and drive unit for the ACS880 series variable frequency drives. It is mainly used for multi-protocol communication, motion control and I/O expansion between the drives and upper-level PLC/DCS systems. The NDCU-12CK is its extended version equipped with Profinet Ethernet.
1. Technical Specifications

2. Core Functions
Drive Communication Gateway: Enables data exchange between ACS880 variable frequency drives and upper-level systems, transmitting operating status, fault information and control commands.
Motion Control: Supports multi-axis synchronization, master-slave control and position/speed closed-loop control, ideal for high-speed production lines, wind turbine pitch control and other applications.
I/O Expansion: Connect NDCO/NDBU modules via expansion slots to expand analog and pulse signal acquisition capabilities.
Fault Diagnosis: Real-time monitoring of communication, power supply and I/O status; built-in fault logging and remote diagnosis support.

3. Application Scenarios
- Matching control and communication unit for ABB ACS880 series variable frequency drives
- Coordinated control of multiple devices and synchronous transmission systems on industrial automated production lines
- Applications requiring high-reliability drive control and remote maintenance, such as wind power, metallurgy and water treatment
- Upgrade and replacement of legacy ABB drive systems, fully compatible with existing control logic
4. Notes
Power Supply Requirements: Use an isolated 24 VDC power supply exclusively. Do not share the ground with the main circuit of the drive to prevent communication port damage caused by interference.
Protocol Compatibility: NDCU-12C and NDCU-12CK adopt different communication protocols and are incompatible. Select the correct model according to the network type of the upper-level system; do not mix the two models.
Installation & Heat Dissipation: Mount the unit vertically. Reserve a clearance of no less than 30 mm on all sides for heat dissipation. Over-temperature above 55℃ will trigger derating or shutdown protection.
Wiring Protection: Use shielded twisted-pair cables for communication lines with single-end grounding for the shield. Keep high voltage away from I/O wiring to avoid module burnout.
Firmware Compatibility: Ensure the firmware version matches that of the ACS880 drive. Verify version numbers before firmware upgrade to prevent communication failures or malfunction.
Anti-static Protection: Wear an anti-static wrist strap during installation and maintenance. Static electricity may damage the internal precision chips.
