Description

ABB CI855K01 3BSE018106R1

I. Basic Information

Model: CI855K01 | Part Code: 3BSE018106R1

Product Positioning: Dedicated MB300 (MasterBus300) bus master communication interface module designed for ABB 800xA/AC800M DCS systems. Matched with TP853 base unit, it enables cross-generation networking between the latest AC800M controllers and legacy Advant OCS equipment (AC410/AC450, MasterPiece200) with MB300 bus connections, serving as a core spare part for legacy system technical retrofits. Featuring redundant circuit links and hot-swappable functionality, it is the mainstream I/O card for interconnection between new and legacy DCS in existing thermal power, petrochemical and metallurgical facilities.

Brand: ABB DCS | Origin: Sweden
Category: MB300 Bus Master Communication Module (complete set consisting of main module and TP853 base)
Compatibility: AC800M controllers (PM865/PM866/PM867), CEX controller backplane bus, legacy Advant MB300 controllers and remote I/O stations
Mounting: The TP853 base clips onto standard 35mm DIN rails. Overall dimensions: 59(W)×185(H)×127.5(D) mm; Net weight: approx. 0.7kg. The PCB is coated with Grade G3 anti-corrosion coating complying with ISA71.04 industrial anti-corrosion standard; the module carries an IP20 ingress protection rating and is intended for installation inside sealed control cabinets.
Standard Package Configuration: CI855 main module + TP853 terminal base (base integrated with dual RJ45 ports and power supply circuit), plus tri-color LED status indicators for Run, Fault and Link status.

II. Technical Specifications

(1) Electrical & Communication Parameters

Power Supply: 24VDC ±10%, typical operating current 150mA; the base is equipped with built-in hardware protection against reverse power connection and port surge transients.
Bus Specifications: Natively supports ABB MB300 token bus protocol at a communication rate of 10Mbps. A single bus supports up to 64 MB300 slave nodes; one module can transmit and receive approximately 200 DataSet packets per second. Dual RJ45 Ethernet ports deliver redundant bus links (circuit-level redundancy only; hardware redundancy of the module itself is not supported), with automatic seamless failover to the backup channel upon link failure.
Interface Configuration: The TP853 base is fitted with two 8-pin RJ45 Ethernet ports featuring minimum 2500VAC galvanic isolation between signal circuits and system backplane to eliminate ground loop interference. The module plugs into the AC800M controller backplane via the CEX bus; a maximum of 12 CI855-series communication cards can be installed on the CEX bus of one single controller.
Bus Role: Acts as MB300 bus Master, linking down to all series of legacy Advant MB300 slave control devices.

(2) Environmental Specifications

Operating Temperature: Continuous long-term operation ranging from +5℃ to +55℃; Storage Temperature: -40℃ ~ +70℃
Humidity: 5%~95% RH non-condensing; complies with IEC61000 EMC industrial electromagnetic compatibility standards.

III. Key Features

  1. Cross-generation protocol conversion between new and legacy DCS
    Enables seamless integration of the 800xA+AC800M modern control system with outdated Advant OCS MB300 controllers and field I/O modules. Existing production units avoid full removal of legacy hardware, substantially cutting technical renovation expenses.
  2. Fault tolerance via dual-port redundant links
    Dual RJ45 ports form a redundant MB300 bus loop. Automatic switchover to the spare link occurs in case of single cable breakage or bus short-circuit, ensuring uninterrupted DCS point data acquisition and process interlock logic to satisfy high-reliability control requirements for process industries.
  3. Hot-swap capability
    The CI855 module can be removed and replaced online without shutting down the system, with no adverse impact on other controllers and communication cards mounted on the same backplane, enabling maintenance without production outage.
  4. Real-time onboard hardware fault diagnostics
    Multi-channel RUN/ERR/LINK LEDs provide local indication of power, communication and bus faults; diagnostic fault codes are transmitted to the AC800M controller over the CEX bus and trigger pop-up alarms on the upper-level 800xA HMI for rapid fault localization on the bus network.
  5. Peer-to-Peer data exchange
    Supports point-to-point data communication between new and legacy controllers to realize cross-system transmission of process parameters and interlock coordination, ideal for phased renovation and staged commissioning projects.

IV. Operating Principle

After 24VDC power-on: The module performs self-checks on power circuit, CEX bus and MB300 transceivers, then completes handshake and registration with the AC800M main controller over the CEX bus.
Downstream path: AC800M issues control commands → CI855 converts commands into MB300 token bus frames → frames are transmitted to legacy Advant MB300 controllers/I/O stations over redundant dual Ethernet cables.
Upstream path: Field measurement data from legacy MB300 devices is collected via the bus → CI855 encapsulates data packets → packets are uploaded to the AC800M main controller through the CEX bus.
Fault handling logic: Automatic switchover to the redundant RJ45 channel upon single-link abnormality; fault information is latched and uploaded to the upper DCS monitoring platform.

V. Application Scenarios

  1. Retrofit projects upgrading legacy Advant DCS to 800xA for 300MW~1000MW thermal power generating units;
  2. Spare parts for DCS system replacement and capacity expansion of ageing MB300 bus-based plants in refining and coal chemical industries;
  3. Integration projects connecting legacy Advant OCS systems to new AC800M control systems for metallurgical blast furnaces and sinter production lines;
  4. Compatibility revamp projects linking legacy production lines to modern control systems in papermaking and cement manufacturing sectors.
