Description
Honeywell CC-PCNT02
1. General Information
Honeywell CC-PCNT02 (Part No.: 51454551-275) is a core controller module for the Honeywell Experion PKS C300 DCS system. It serves as an upgraded replacement for CC-PCNT01 and is manufactured in the United States. Equipped with a high-performance processor, it integrates process control, I/O scheduling, redundancy management and FTE Fault Tolerant Ethernet communication functions. As the main control unit for critical process industries including chemical, oil & gas and power generation, CC-PCNT02 is the only model that supports the advanced Profit Controller function.
2. Technical Specifications
2.1 Core Performance & Control Capacity
- Processor: High-performance industrial CPU, supporting Profit®Loop adaptive optimization algorithm and custom CAB algorithm.
- Control Scale: Maximum 64 I/O points. Each pair of IOLINK interfaces can connect up to 40 I/O modules in parallel.
- Redundancy Architecture: Supports active/standby redundancy with bumpless switchover and availability higher than 99.999%. RAM is equipped with ECC error correction, and Flash memory adopts checksum protection.
- Real-time Performance: Adjustable control cycle ranging from 10ms to 100ms. The switchover time for FTE network redundancy is approximately 1 second.
2.2 Electrical & Communication Parameters
- Power Supply: 24VDC from the C300 rack backplane; power consumption ≤ 15W. Dual redundant power input is supported.
- Communication Interfaces:
- 2 × FTE Ports: Fault Tolerant Ethernet with dual network redundancy, compatible with Modbus TCP/IP, Profinet and OPC UA protocols.
- 2 × IOLINK Ports: Redundant I/O bus for connecting local and remote I/O cards.
- Battery Interface: For backup battery (3V CR2032), which preserves RAM configuration during power outages.
- GPS Synchronization: Optional external clock, supporting NTP and PTP time synchronization protocols.
2.3 Physical & Environmental Parameters
- Dimensions: 120×165×81mm; Weight: Approximately 0.34kg
- Operating Temperature: -20℃ ~ +70℃; Storage Temperature: -40℃ ~ +85℃
- Humidity: 5% ~ 95% RH (Non-condensing); Protection Class: IP20 (IP54 available with optional conformal coating)
- Vibration Resistance: 5~200Hz, 1G. Adopts reinforced PCB, suitable for long-term vibrating operating conditions.

3. Working Principle
- Power-on Initialization: After powered by the backplane, the CPU conducts self-diagnostics on memory, bus and I/O interfaces. It loads embedded system firmware and user control strategies, and synchronizes the system clock.
- I/O Data Interaction: The controller polls I/O modules via the IOLINK bus, collects AI/DI signals and converts them into engineering values. It also sends AO/DO commands to drive field actuators.
- Control & Calculation Execution: Runs PID control, sequence control, batch control (compliant with ISA S88.01) and Profit®Loop optimization algorithms to generate output commands.
- Network Data Forwarding: Communicates with Experion servers and operator stations through FTE ports to upload process data and alarms, and receive commands from upper-level systems.
- Redundancy & Fault Management: The active controller synchronizes real-time data to the standby controller. In case of faults, seamless switchover is triggered, faulty channels are isolated and diagnostic codes are uploaded.
4. Application Scenarios
- Main Control for Large-scale DCS: Acts as the core controller for facilities in chemical, thermal power, oil & gas industries, handling complex continuous and batch processes.
- Advanced Process Optimization: Exclusive support for Profit Controller to realize multivariable predictive control and real-time process optimization.
- Legacy System Upgrade: Direct on-site replacement for CC-PCNT01. No cabinet or program modification is required to enhance system performance and redundancy.
- Distributed I/O Control: Expands remote I/O via IOLINK to reduce wiring workload, ideal for systems with a large number of scattered measuring points.
5. Important Notes
- Firmware Compatibility: The Extended Intelligence Module (EIM) firmware is mandatory to activate Profit Controller; standard firmware does not support this function.
- Redundancy Configuration: The active and standby controllers must be of the same model and firmware version, otherwise data synchronization failure and abnormal switchover will occur.
- Battery Maintenance: The service life of the backup battery is about 5 years and regular replacement is required. RAM configuration data will be lost once power cuts without a working backup battery.
- Hot-swap Rules: Hot-swap is supported. Before plugging or unplugging the module, release the controller affiliation in related software to avoid network storms.
- Environmental Requirements: Keep the module away from strong electromagnetic interference sources (such as frequency converters and high-power motors), heat sources and corrosive gases.
