It supports incremental encoder, single/dual-phase pulse signal acquisition, serving as a dedicated data acquisition module for motion control, flow measurement and displacement positioning scenarios.
Product Positioning
DSDP160 57160001-KG is a dedicated high-speed pulse acquisition unit for ABB classic Advant series control systems. It directly connects field devices such as rotary encoders, flow meters and speed sensors, converts high-frequency pulse signals into digital engineering values via hardware high-speed counting, and uploads data to the main controller for closed-loop calculation of speed, stroke, flow and positioning. All input channels adopt optoelectrical isolation design to effectively eliminate field ground loop interference, electrostatic surge and inverter harmonic disturbance. It is widely used for auxiliary equipment speed monitoring and valve precise positioning in power plants, as well as material metering and servo position control in metallurgical and chemical production lines. Multiple counting modes can be flexibly configured via software; independent hardware counting does not occupy main controller CPU resources, ensuring no pulse loss and stable measurement accuracy under high-frequency signal conditions. It is widely applied in technical renovation and spare part replacement projects of legacy automation systems in thermal power, metallurgy, oil & gas and paper industries.
Hardware Architecture
- Multi-channel Opto-isolated Pulse Input Unit: 8 independent opto-isolated signal acquisition channels compatible with 5V/24V level signals, supporting single-phase pulse, two-phase quadrature pulse and incremental ABZ encoder signals. Each channel is equipped with independent isolation protection to avoid board damage caused by field high-voltage crosstalk.
- Hardware High-speed Counting Processing Unit: Dedicated hardware counting chip supports maximum 1MHz high-frequency pulse sampling, independently completing pulse accumulation, addition/subtraction counting and phase discrimination. No periodic scanning operation from the controller is required, ensuring no pulse loss with ±1 pulse counting accuracy.
- Backplane Bus Data Interaction Unit: Standard Advant parallel backplane bus interface realizes high-speed data exchange with the rack main controller, uploading real-time count values, channel status and fault codes, and receiving instructions such as count reset, mode switching and threshold latch from the main unit.

- Smooth Retrofit Compatibility for Legacy Systems: Fully compatible with Advant hardware architecture, enabling direct replacement of faulty legacy acquisition boards with minimal wiring and logic modification to reduce renovation downtime and commissioning cost.
IV. Working Principle
After 24VDC rack power is supplied, the module completes power-on self-test covering backplane bus, 8 input channels, counting chip and power circuit. If self-test passes, the RUN indicator lights on and waits for configuration parameters from the main controller. The upper controller downloads channel mode, frequency multiplication and threshold parameters via the backplane bus. The onboard hardware counting chip cyclically collects pulse signals: single-phase pulses are accumulated directly, while quadrature encoder signals adopt phase discrimination for forward/reverse counting with hardware glitch filtering to prevent miscounting.Real-time count values, channel status and fault information are cyclically uploaded to the main controller via parallel backplane bus, which converts pulse totals into process variables for PID regulation, interlock protection and data archiving. When short-circuit, wire break or overvoltage occurs on any channel, the corresponding fault indicator activates and the alarm status is uploaded remotely, while other isolated channels operate continuously. Remote instructions can trigger full or single-channel count reset and peak latch operations.
V. Application Scenarios
