Description
1. Product Overview
ABB PM154, part number 3BSE003645R1, is a digital output card belonging to the ABB S800 I/O series. It is compatible with the complete distributed DCS control systems of System 800xA and AC800M, serving as a standard output unit for controllers to send logic commands and drive field actuators.
The module is equipped with independent channel drive circuits and hardware fault diagnosis loops, featuring 16 channels of 24VDC active digital outputs. Each channel carries a rated load of 0.7A and can withstand a 4.8A short-time surge current lasting 10 ms. It integrates three levels of hardware protection including overcurrent, overvoltage and overheating protection, and supports wire breakage diagnosis and load loss detection. Matched with the TU812V1 (3BSE013232R1) 25-pin D-Sub terminal unit, it conducts high-speed data interaction with the controller via the ModuleBus backplane bus, and supports module hot swapping and online diagnosis data upload.

4. Product Functions and Features
16-channel independent isolated active outputs compatible with 24VDC field actuators
Each channel features fully independent electrical isolation without mutual interference, and can directly drive 24V solenoid valves, indicator lights, small intermediate relays and valve feedback actuators. Built-in reverse EMF absorption loops for inductive loads eliminate the need for additional freewheeling diodes and simplify field wiring.
Full-channel online fault diagnosis for precise loop abnormality location
Real-time detection of four types of faults: load loss, wire short-circuit, channel overcurrent and module overheating. A fault on a single channel only locks the faulty channel while the rest operate normally. Fault statuses are uploaded to the DCS system to generate SOE events, enabling maintenance personnel to quickly locate wire breakage and short-circuit points and shorten downtime troubleshooting.
Multi-stage hardware protection prevents module burnout and system disturbance
Three layers of hardware protection are implemented: single-channel current limiting shutdown, overall power derating upon overheating, and backplane power reverse polarity / short-circuit protection. Short-circuit faults on field loads will not damage the module or cut off communication of the entire ModuleBus bus, ensuring continuous controllable operation of the complete I/O station.
Support for online hot swapping without full system shutdown
Modules can be replaced with power on. The replacement process has no impact on other I/O modules and controller logic, allowing separate maintenance of single-loop faults. It is suitable for continuous production facilities such as chemical plants and power plants that cannot undergo full-line shutdown.
Long-life solid-state switches with wide-temperature stability for frequent switching scenarios
Solid-state power switches without mechanical contacts eliminate contact oxidation and adhesion wear, supporting millions of high-frequency on/off operations. Their service life is vastly longer than relay output modules, making them ideal for scenarios with frequent valve startup/shutdown and purge solenoid valve switching.
Standardized S800 I/O architecture for convenient replacement during new and old system renovation
