Description
1. Product Overview
ENTERASYS X440-G2-24FX-GE4 (belonging to Extreme Networks X440-G2 series) is a Layer 3 managed switch with 24 fixed 100BASE-FX fiber ports, designed for campus networks, industrial automation and security monitoring systems. It runs the robust ExtremeXOS embedded operating system, optimized for long-distance fiber access and high EMI interference environments.
The switch is equipped with 24 built-in LC 100BASE-FX fiber interfaces and 4 vacant 1G SFP uplink slots, supporting IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack Layer 3 routing, refined ACL policy, bidirectional traffic shaping and IEEE 802.1 AVB for real-time audio/video transmission. It integrates a built-in AC power supply with an RPS redundant power backup port, supporting extended temperature operation from 0℃ to 60℃. Centralized cloud management and Fabric virtual networking are available. Certified with CE, UL and industrial EMC standards, it has no mechanical wearing parts.
It is widely deployed in industrial PLC fiber ring networks, long-distance IP camera wiring, legacy fiber LAN renovation, and convergence of OT & IT networks under harsh dusty, explosion-proof and high-interference industrial conditions.
2. Hardware Structure and Composition
2.1 24-port Fixed 100BASE-FX Fiber Access Unit
24 hardwired LC 100BASE-FX ports without detachable SFP modules, supporting a maximum transmission distance of 2km over multi-mode fiber. Each port integrates hardware link detection to identify fiber breakage and optical power abnormality. Single-port failure will not interrupt the core switching fabric, with dedicated LED indicators for link status.
2.2 Gigabit SFP Uplink & Management Interface Unit
4 empty 1GBASE-X SFP slots for uplink expansion; 10G SFP+ upgrade via license is not supported on this model. Standard interfaces include RJ45 Console debug port, out-of-band management Ethernet port and USB port for offline configuration import/export, enabling local CLI debugging, remote OOB management and batch configuration deployment.
2.3 Core Switching & Forwarding Unit
Non-blocking wire-speed switching ASIC with hardware-based MAC address learning, 802.1Q VLAN, STP/RSTP/MSTP loop prevention, LACP port aggregation, static routing and OSPF dynamic routing. A hardware watchdog auto-reboots the system and saves fault logs in case of firmware crash or process deadlock to ensure 24/7 operation.
2.4 Power Supply & Surge Protection Unit
Integrated fixed AC mains power module with an external RPS redundant power input for seamless power switchover during primary supply failure. Built-in lightning surge suppression, over-current, over-voltage and reverse polarity protection to avoid system crash caused by unstable industrial power grid.
2.5 Status Indication & Diagnostics Unit
Front-panel LEDs for PWR power, SYS system running, LINK/ACT port activity and ALARM fault alert. Steady PWR light indicates normal main power input; slow blinking SYS light confirms healthy OS operation; ALARM light triggers on fiber loss, power anomaly or configuration conflict. All fault logs, traffic statistics and routing entries can be exported via Extreme Management Center and ExtremeCloud IQ.
2.6 Standard 1U Rackmount Enclosure Unit
19-inch 1U steel chassis with dedicated earthing lug for integral shielding against EMI from inverters and high-power motors. Passive directional cooling eliminates cooling fans to prevent dust accumulation and reduce maintenance workload, suitable for sealed cabinet deployment.
