Description
1. Product Overview
Honeywell FS-USI-0002 is a dedicated Universal Safety Interface (USI) module for Honeywell Safety Manager safety control systems, belonging to the core supporting unit of the FSC fail-safe control series. Designed exclusively for industrial Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), it acts as a special signal conversion and communication bridge between field safety devices and safety processors. This module centrally collects, isolates and converts multiple types of field safety signals, compatible with digital discrete, analog and temperature sensing signals. It realizes stable safety data transmission through a dual redundant communication architecture, and automatically completes signal verification, fault diagnosis and abnormal alarming to ensure the integrity and reliability of system signal acquisition.
Certified with SIL3 safety level, FS-USI-0002 integrates hardware self-diagnosis, signal isolation, overvoltage and short-circuit protection, and supports hot-swap maintenance. It is fully compatible with Honeywell Experion PKS and Safety Manager control systems. Featuring industrial wide-temperature tolerance and high EMC resistance, it is widely applied in SIS interlock systems of petrochemical, oil & gas, thermal power and other high-risk process industries, serving for spare part replacement, measuring point expansion and system upgrading of legacy safety systems.
2. Hardware Structure and Composition
2.1 Multi-type Safety Signal Acquisition Unit
The module integrates universal multi-function signal channels, supporting 4~20mA analog signals, discrete DI/DO signals, RTD and thermocouple temperature signals. It connects to field safety equipment such as emergency stop buttons, safety light curtains, guard door interlocks and safety transmitters. All channels adopt independent electrical isolation to prevent crosstalk, ensuring single-channel faults do not affect the operation of other measuring points. Vibration-resistant crimp terminals ensure stable connection for long-term industrial operation.
2.2 Redundant Communication & Data Processing Unit
Equipped with dual communication links (Ethernet and RS485), it supports high-speed data interaction with upper-level Safety Manager controllers and Experion PKS systems, uploading real-time field status, fault codes and process parameters, and receiving interlock control commands. The built-in high-performance chip realizes signal filtering, data verification and fault identification, accurately detecting signal breakage, over-range and abnormal fluctuation to ensure precise execution of safety interlock logic.
2.3 Hardware Self-diagnosis & Safety Protection Unit
It supports full-range self-inspection during power-on and real-time monitoring of channel status, communication links, power supply and operating temperature during operation. Multi-level hardware protection against short circuit, overload, overheating and overvoltage locks faulty channels and uploads alarm information immediately to prevent fault diffusion. The fault latch function retains fault logs after power failure for subsequent troubleshooting and analysis.
2.4 Rack Mounting & Shielded Earthing Protection Unit
Adopting drawer-type plug-in installation for standard HPM/NIM chassis, it supports hot swapping without system power-off, minimizing maintenance downtime. Integrated shielding grounding contacts suppress industrial electromagnetic interference. The internal strong and weak current circuits are physically separated. It is fully backward compatible with legacy Honeywell safety modules, enabling direct on-site replacement without large-scale modification of wiring and configuration.
