Description
ABB 086348-001
I. Basic Information
Product Positioning: Main control board for rack backplane bus management and multi-protocol field communication. It centrally collects I/O module data within the rack, executes protocol conversion and data interaction with upper-level master controllers. Downward connection to 086329-004 signal conditioning boards and upward access to DCS main controllers via proprietary bus. All versions with identical part numbers feature fully compatible hardware pinout and rack footprint; updated firmware versions support direct plug-and-play field replacement.
- Brand: ABB (formerly Bailey Controls, USA) | Origin: USA
- Category: Infi90/ECS System Rack Communication Master Board
- Compatibility: Bailey Infi90, ABB ECS control system, UNITROL excitation system, DCS800 DC drive control cabinet, all variants of 086329-series signal conditioning modules
- Mounting: Plug-in installation into European-style slots of standard Infi90 rack; Dimension: 262×128×21mm; Net Weight: approx.0.21kg; Full PCB coated with three-proof epoxy coating; Ingress Protection: IP20 (for installation inside sealed control cabinets)
- Onboard Terminals: European gold-finger backplane connectors on both ends plus external RS485 terminal block on side edge; four groups of status LED indicators: POWER/RUN/FAULT/COM
II. Technical Specifications
(1) Electrical & Communication Parameters
- Power Supply: 24VDC±10% cabinet control power; rated power consumption 4.2W; built-in hardware protection against reverse polarity, overvoltage, surge and short-circuit.
- Backplane Bus: Proprietary parallel Infi90 backplane bus, automatically polling all rack-mounted I/O conditioning boards; maximum 16 pieces of 086329-series signal boards per single rack.
- External Communication: Galvanically isolated independent RS485 bus supporting proprietary ECS protocol and Modbus-RTU with auto-adaptive baud rate from 2.4kbps to 38.4kbps for connection to third-party variable frequency drives and smart transmitters.
Memory: Onboard FLASH for firmware storage; communication configurations and bus parameters are permanently retained after power loss; local serial port available for online firmware upgrade.
(2) Environmental Parameters
- Operating Temperature: -20℃~+60℃ for continuous in-cabinet operation; Storage Temperature: -40℃~+85℃
- Ambient Humidity: 5%~95% RH non-condensing; compliant with IEC61000 EMC industrial EMC standards to withstand harsh environments including VFD harmonics, dust, oil mist and corrosive vapor commonly found in power plants.

III. Key Features
Centralized Aggregation & Routing of Full-rack I/O Data
Isolated Dual-link Communication Architecture
Galvanic isolation between rack backplane bus and external RS485 interface; failure on one communication link will not impair operation of the other, preventing full-cabinet control outage caused by single-point communication fault.
Full-link Hardware Self-diagnosis & Alarm Function
Drop-in Replacement for Legacy Bailey Systems
Multi-protocol Compatibility for Retrofit & Capacity Expansion
IV. Working Principle
- Power-on Self-test: Upon 24VDC energization, the board executes self-check for onboard power circuit, bus transceiver chips and FLASH firmware, then initializes backplane communication parameters.
- Cyclic Polling: Time-division polling of all installed 086329-004 signal conditioning boards over rack backplane bus to acquire analog and digital process values from field measuring points.
- Data Packaging: Aggregate all collected process data, encapsulate per Infi90 protocol and cyclically transmit to upper DCS master controller.
- Command Distribution: Receive setpoint and control parameters from master controller and forward instructions to field instruments and local I/O boards via RS485 or backplane bus for execution.
- Fault Isolation: Automatically cut off communication with faulty subordinate I/O board while data acquisition of remaining modules stays intact; relevant fault alarm information is uploaded synchronously.
V. Application Scenarios
(1) DCS for Thermal Power Boiler & Steam Turbine (Primary Application)
(2) Legacy DCS Cabinets of Petrochemical & Coal-Chemical Plants
Centralized signal collection for field measuring points of distillation units and heating furnaces, as well as signal routing for reactor temperature & level monitoring.
(3) Generator Excitation & DC Drive Systems
(4) Metallurgical Hot Rolling & Captive Power Plant Control Systems
Centralized signal communication routing for rolling mill temperature control and circulating pump on-site signals; preferred replacement component for legacy Bailey system renovation.
