1. Overview

Triconex DO 3626X is a SIL 3 certified high-density safety digital output module designed for Schneider Triconex TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) safety control systems, tailored for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), Fire & Gas (F&G) systems and Burner Management Systems (BMS) in process industries. As a high-performance controlled discrete output unit built on Tricon’s proprietary TMR architecture, it delivers standardized 24 VDC digital control signals to drive field end devices including solenoid valves, emergency shutoff valves, audible & visual alarms, relay loops and unit interlock actuators.Integrated with core functions such as hardware-level fault-tolerant voting, full-channel fault self-diagnosis, load monitoring and fail-safe output, it effectively eliminates risks of false trips and failure to trip of interlocks.Widely deployed in high-risk process sectors including petrochemicals, oil & gas storage and transportation, coal chemicals and power generation, it provides highly reliable digital output execution for unit emergency shutdown, process interlock trip, F&G linkage protection and equipment safety management.

2. Technical Features

2.1 High-Density Channel Integration for Large-Scale Interlock Control

Adopting a highly integrated modular design with multiple isolated independent digital output channels, the module features compact layout and high integration. It greatly saves cabinet installation space, reduces rack configuration and wiring costs, and lowers capital and maintenance investment for the entire safety system. All output channels work independently without mutual interference and support synchronous control of massive field actuators. It perfectly meets centralized control demands for numerous safety interlock points on large chemical and energy facilities, suitable for large-scale safety loop networking and multi-device linkage applications.

2.2 TMR Triple Redundant Architecture with Ultimate SIL 3 Fault Tolerance

Equipped with Triconex core TMR triple modular redundant hardware architecture, three independent control, calculation and output links operate synchronously with hardware voting output. Triple logic verification automatically identifies single-point hardware faults and abnormal control signals, fundamentally preventing false interlock action, failure to trip or spurious shutdown caused by single-channel or single-link failure.Designed in accordance with industrial fail-safe standards, single-point faults are fully isolated without propagation and will not affect overall module operation. It satisfies zero-tolerance safety requirements for high-risk industrial plants and ensures long-term stable and reliable commissioning of critical safety interlock loops.

2.3 Intelligent Full-Channel Self-Diagnosis with Full Visibility of Load Status

Real-time refined online self-diagnosis is available for all channels to accurately detect open circuits, short circuits, abnormal loads, overcurrent faults, loop leakage and hardware circuit damage, covering all potential hidden risks of digital output loops. The module uploads fault codes, abnormal channel numbers, fault timestamps and load status data in real time. Combined with system SOE (Sequence of Events) timestamp logging, root causes and abnormal interlock logic can be quickly located. It greatly simplifies field loop commissioning, troubleshooting and equipment inspection, supports predictive maintenance and cuts the probability of unplanned plant shutdowns.

2.4 High-Precision Output Drive with Excellent Anti-Interference & Stability

Dedicated signal drive and voltage regulation protection circuits are embedded to achieve fast response and high output precision, capable of stably driving various industrial loads such as solenoid valves and relays.Multi-layer filtering and anti-interference mechanisms effectively suppress electromagnetic noise, voltage surges and signal interference generated by inverters and frequent switching of high-power equipment on site, eliminating signal jitter and false triggering under complex working conditions.Built-in automatic protection against overcurrent, overvoltage and short circuit safeguards downstream load equipment and improves the stability and service life of interlock loops.

2.5 Industrial Rugged Design with Online Maintenance Without Shutdown

Manufactured with strict industrial ruggedization processes and dust-proof & moisture-proof structures to adapt to harsh cabinet environments with fluctuating temperature & humidity, dust and heavy electromagnetic interference. It features vibration resistance, anti-aging and temperature cycle resistance and supports 24/7 non-stop continuous safety operation. The module supports standard rack-mount hot-swap replacement without system shutdown or power interruption for maintenance and part swapping. It maximizes continuous production of industrial facilities, minimizes downtime losses and fits unattended long-term operation modes.

4. Working Principle

Based on the TMR triple redundant safety architecture, Triconex DO 3626X executes a closed-loop safety output workflow: receiving system control commands → triple-link redundant voting → voltage-stabilized drive output → load condition monitoring → fault diagnosis & isolation protection.

After power-on initialization, the module automatically completes hardware self-test, output loop verification, load detection and system bus handshaking. It enters normal safety control output mode only after confirming healthy hardware circuits, output channels and communication links.

During operation, the module receives interlock control commands issued by the Tricon safety controller in real time. Three independent redundant computing links parse, verify and vote on commands synchronously to filter out abnormal instructions and single-point faulty signals and prevent incorrect output caused by command distortion.

Verified control signals go through voltage regulation, amplification and driving before being output as standard 24 VDC discrete signals to precisely actuate field solenoid valves, shutoff valves, alarm devices, relays and other actuators to implement safety actions including process interlock, emergency shutdown and F&G linkage.

The module continuously monitors load conditions, loop status and hardware operation of all output channels. Once short circuits, open circuits, overcurrent, abnormal loads or hardware faults are detected, local LED alarms and background SOE event records are triggered immediately. The faulty channel is locked and abnormal output cut off automatically to avoid fault propagation and unintended interlock actions.

Benefiting from TMR fault tolerance, faults on a single link or channel will not impair overall output functions and safety logic of the module. It consistently guarantees accuracy, continuity and security of interlock output for the SIS system and forms a solid safety bottom line for industrial plant operation.
