1. Product Overview
Bently Nevada 3500/72M, part number 140734-08, is a dedicated 4-channel reciprocating compressor reciprocating rod position monitor front card for the 3500 machinery protection system. It works as a split assembly matched with the identical 140734-08 rear I/O terminal board, fully compatible with the standard 3500/05 system rack and compliant with API 618 standards for reciprocating compressors, acting as the core monitoring module for packing, piston rod and crosshead fault protection of reciprocating compressors.
The module accepts signal input from proximity displacement probes, independently calculates three key reciprocating unit displacement parameters: rod position, rod drop and hyper-compression. Channels can be grouped in pairs for independent configuration, and two-stage programmable alarm thresholds can be set for each channel. It integrates 4 isolated 4~20mA analog outputs and passive relay alarm dry contacts. Two-way data communication with the 3500 rack and upper configuration software is realized via the internal rack parallel bus to realize early warning of faults such as reciprocating rod wear, packing leakage and piston deflection, as well as safety shutdown interlock protection.

2. Hardware Structure and Composition
2.1 Four-Channel Proximity Signal Acquisition & Displacement Operation Unit
A dedicated displacement DSP processing chip is built-in, equipped with 4 fully independent isolated acquisition channels, each compatible with signal inputs from full-series 3300/3300XL proximity probes and proximitors. Hardware executes gap filtering, peak extraction and reciprocating stroke feature calculation. Channels 1-2 and 3-4 can be grouped to configure different monitoring functions, and faults on a single channel will not interfere with normal acquisition of the other three channels. A hardware watchdog is embedded to automatically latch fault records and light the panel fault indicator upon abnormal operation.
2.2 Panel Status Indication & Probe Input Interface Unit
Four groups of BNC probe signal input terminals and multiple sets of two-color LED status indicators are arranged on the panel: CH1~CH4 channels, PWR power supply, COM communication, FAULT hardware fault, ALARM alarm and BYPASS bypass.

2.3 Rack Backplane High-Speed Parallel Bus Interaction Unit
A standard European double-row gold-plated pin backplane interface is arranged at the rear of the module. After vertical insertion into the full-height slot of the 3500 rack, it docks with the rack power supply and system bus to realize high-speed data transmission with the rear terminal board, system communication card and human-machine display unit. It uploads 4-channel reciprocating rod displacement measured values, alarm status and fault sequence curves in real time, and synchronously receives configuration instructions issued by the upper computer including probe sensitivity, alarm thresholds, filtering parameters and interlock logic.
2.4 Alarm Output & Analog Conversion Unit
Two types of standardized industrial signals are output externally in cooperation with the matching 140734-08 rear I/O terminal board:

It adopts standard full-height single-slot size for the 3500 rack, suitable for installation on 19-inch standard control cabinet racks. Gold-plated backplane contact pins resist oxidation and corrosion. The fully electronic design without moving mechanical parts requires zero routine wear maintenance. The metal shell is integrally grounded to suppress high-frequency electromagnetic interference generated by frequency converters and high-power motors inside the cabinet.
